I aim to inspire people about style not fashion: how to wear clothes well, put together combinations, look elegant and age gracefully

What's your point?

Mine is the Tragara, the Punta Tragara. When you’ve stayed in one of its precipitously-positioned rooms, it makes all other hotels seem …. well, just a little bit point-less.  Let’s be clear. You’re never going to find me in a tent suspended from a 3,000-metre cliff. Nor will I be base-jumping, hang-gliding, or high diving. Luckily the Punta Tragara offers a little taste of each from the comfort of your room. Designed by Le Corbusier in the 1920s as a private villa and subsequently re-modelled as a hotel, all the rooms have wonderful views of either the Faraglioni, the Marina Piccola, or Monte Solaro and Capri Town.

I first stayed here by accident but have since returned many times. It’s a bit further to walk than some of the other hotels but it’s worth it. The staff are wonderful – helpful, friendly and engaging – and make you feel very welcome. Luigi Lionetti’s food is terrific, whether you eat beside one of the two pools or in the glass-fronted restaurant or terrace. And the hotel has a small but very well-equipped spa – the GILI Wellness Centre – which not only has a great masseuse but a wonderful hair stylist – Fabrizio Narducci. Fabrizio gave me a wonderful hair treatment and if you ever visit Capri, you should book an appointment with him. He is brilliant.

Just next the entrance to the hotel are the steps leading down to La Fontelina, one of Capri’s best beach clubs and if you want to work up an appetite before lunch, you can head for La Fontelina by way of the Via Matermania, the Arco Naturale, and the Villa Malaparte. If you follow the Via del Pizzalungo, the path and steps will take you around the coast to La Fontelina. It’s a great walk which I highly recommend.
